Facebook has turned into a cesspool of random adverts, but the one section I find quite interesting (in a ‘Real Housewives‘ way) is the community groups (like Fourways, Greenside, Parkview… etc). So often, I see people looking for photographers. Let’s be clear – they don’t just want a list of photographers, like you find on Google – they want recommendations by real humans, and that’s why they’ve turned to their little online suburban community.
Now that I’m waist-deep in the photography community, I wanted to share some family photographers I think are pretty great (with bonus mentions for Durban and Cape Town). I know people often want “a photographer in Fourways” for example, but I promise you, every photographer is willing to drive!
7 emotive family photographers in Johannesburg

I love her documentary like style, her subtle editing, and her observation. She’s photographed my last 2 family photoshoots.

Lovely, raw, observant style. We did a cosmos shoot with her in 2022 when the twins were petite.

She is my current inspo! I adore her unposed, emotive images and her editing style. LOVE!

I’ve met Chloe and she is wonderful; and I can imagine it would be really fun to have in your space. Gorgeous work.

Judith Belle
I really do like her un-invasive and observant style. She photographed my wedding, boudoir shoot and first newborn shoot.
Chloe Tagg Photography
EMOTIVE, EMOTIVE, EMOTIVE! Gorgeous work and apart from just thinking her work is so beautiful, I’ve also booked her for my 2026 family photoshoot.

Samantha Steele Photography
It’s me! People have fun on my photoshoots. And I’m all about the real, raw stuff, with an artistic eye.
Honourable mention
I also recommend for parties and more posed shoots Calendar Events Photography and Finding Light Photography.

Quick mention: Cape Town, Durban and Eastern Cape
Just have to throw in these photographers that I love in Durban and Cape Town!
- Courtney Warren – Durban: She has a beautiful way with light, and is super fun. She did a family photoshoot with us on the beach and it’s still some of my most favourite photos ever.
- Sophie Smith – Eastern Cape: An artist that uses a camera as her medium. I did a mentorship session with her and she heavily inspired my current work.
- Shante Hutton – Cape Town: Cheeky personality, dreamy photoshoots. Adore her.
All this to say, South Africa is a beautiful country blessed with amazing people and incredibly creative photographers and artists. Between all these options, you’ll certainly find someone that matches your style and budget. Just follow them on social for gorgeous images, if nothing else!
