Adventures in film photography

I am an analogue baby. I love scratching my To Do list into my journal (and then decorating it with stickers and sketches). I scrawl my shopping list on little squares of paper and print out my favourite photos and hang them on my wall.

So you can imagine my excitement when my father-in-law came to visit and helped me to dust off his old Canon film camera! I’ve started to use it to document my family at home and I really love how slow and intentional it forces me to be. I also love getting the images back and already have one of our special nanny and my twins on the trampoline in the garden (pictured above) hanging on my picture wall. Each roll also only takes 35 photos; whereas with my fantastic mirrorless camera I’m often taking 1600+ photos in a family session and delivering the best 100 to clients.

There is also a cost difference, naturally, as film and development have up-front costs, whereas for digital photography my costs are folded into the equipment, editing software, and image storage. As the warm golden sun brazenly strikes through my window across my lap, I’m reminded once again that no matter what form it takes, life is good, and there is beauty to be found everywhere.
