STEAM centers in schools are vibrant hubs where Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics collide in a symphony of creativity and innovation. These dynamic spaces are more than just classrooms; they’re launchpads for young minds, especially for girls who are often underrepresented in STEM fields.
Imagine a young girl coding a program that animates a character she’s drawn, or building a miniature water filtration system using recycled materials. These experiences ignite a passion for exploration and discovery, opening doors to exciting careers in engineering, medicine, computer science, and countless other fields. STEAM centers provide the tools and inspiration for girls to become the inventors, problem-solvers, and leaders of tomorrow.
Auckland Park Preparatory, a leading all-girls school in Johannesburg, invited me to the launch of their STEAM center. I was amazed at how spirited the school is, the energy of the students, and the excitement of the staff at the launch of this world-class facility! And, may I say, it has a SLIDE. This was super fun and I am so pleased they invited me to capture the launch.
